way back when, in college, when i lived in a dorm and had a nympho for a roommate, there was a purity test everyone was taking...
she was something like 37% pure, the low score by far... i was 97 or 98%...
well, i just took it again (man, there are a lot of these things around nowadays) and i've dropped to 87.2%
well, ok, it might be going a liiittle lower in the near future, but i'm not too sure about that, and if i told you exactly when, that'd be no fun ;)

ok, so i didn't expect my parents to act so soon, but when my mom got home from work today (a whole half hour early) she said thattomorrow i could have a new keyboard...
tomorrow!
wholly shit!
i was thinking "well, maybe we could stop sunday on the way home from dropping my sister off at school, you know, if the store's still open"
oh yeah, sunday is easter, the rest of the world observes thse things...
well anyway, i got so excited i convinced my sister to go across the street to best buy with me and look at what my options were. you know you can get a keyboard for $15? but then my sister mention cordless keyboards, and i got all excited, since putting the thing in my lap is kinda how this started anyway.
when i got my computer it had all those buttons on top, i thought they look funny, and i never set any of them up, but i'm addicted to volume control and the dvd play button.
but not just any volume control, i need the knob. so of course, the only one that has this $99, the single most expensive keyboard in the place. (oh yeah, it came with a cordless optical mouse)
i figure, if my birthday present has to be a mouse (although i think my parents are getting off easy, it's turned out to be lucky for them this appened so close to my birthday) then i might as well go all out. (too bad they don't package keyboards and 60gig hd's, the mouse i had was fine). so i call my mom and say "they have one for $99" and she gets all excited like that's cheap (hehe) but then she asks "what color is it" and i tell her, and she says "aw, too bad it won't match the computer"
then 30 minutes later my dad came home and i asked if he'd take me back and get my the keyboard, and he said "if we hurry to beat the holiday traffic". um dad, it's across the street.
so i got this here cordless keyboard and mouse (i'm using the mouse, turns out the hub has 2 cords), and my parents are happy cause there' a $20 mail in rebate, so we'll be getting that check in 8 weeks (whatever).
the mouse sucks ass. i'm not a fan of the optical mouse, we had them (though not cordless) in my photoshop class. for one thing it gets fooled so easily. and my built in response to a stalled mouse is to lift it up and reset the trackball, but with these things, that sends a red beam of light across the room. and besides that, this mouse is so slow. not like "just fix the setting slow", more like "i had to move it across the desk 4 times to go 3 inches on screen" slow. fortunately i tend to use the keyboard for as much as i can, like pressing shift to hilight and whatnot, but this is ridiculous. i'll let you know tomorrow how long it take me to move the cursor from the bottom of this buffer to the post button a whole 4 inches away.
but man is this keyboard ever quiet...
oh, and it's like learning to type all over again, but i find it's like that switching from my hp to my mac to my ibm anyways...
well, this time i actually correct most of my mistake, a luxury i might not afford this keyboard in the future...

grr, i was on aol tonight and i decided to put the keyboard in my lap to type, and it start spilling liquid out of the top left corner
so i went to turn on the light, but then i remembered i unplugged it to plug in the computer (i'm remembering that a lot lately) so i had to wipe it up by flashlight
well anyway, i though it was gonna be ok, but then when i picked up the keyboard to wipe it, it started pouring out again, so then i started tilting it around and realized this was pretty bad...
then as i'm telling people i have to go, the h and n and the g and b keys start sticking together
then all this crazy stuff starts popping up on the screen... like the internet connection and fax buttons on the keyboard i never bothered to get up keep popping up
so, i plug the 500 watt lamp back in and get out my screwdriver and start taking the thing apart
by the time i had the back off i could smell fried keyboard
then i got most of the screws out of the next part (all the while more liquid is appearing) and started to realize that there were a lot of little parts to deal with
so i put it back together, tried one more time, and i got:
a gb c d e f gb hn i j k l m hn o p q r s t u v w x y z
too bad to, cause i had just convinced myself i didn't need to go to fry's to get the 80gb hd for $139 plus a $50 mail in rebate
so i tell my mom i need a new keyboard (and i do, because even before this it was missing alot my keystrokes anyway) and she says "sounds like food is caught in there, want a q-tip and alcohol"
um no, it's kentucky fried keyboard...
well anyway, i find this annoying because now i'm downstairs on the parent's crappy computer and not my computer, and i was in the middle of animating some stuff i made in photoshop...
and i can't even really upload stuff because i had my ftp client all set up upstairs, and this computer sucks too bad to handle that
but then again, it's not really all that big a deal, because i've been saying for a month (or longer) now that i'm taking april off aol...
kinda funny huh... a jewish girl giving up something for lent, well, not really, but i am intentionally starting on the day after lent ends
so no ims and no chat for a whole month
i have netzero (upstairs, grr) so i figure i have 20 free hours, i can still get my email if people absolutely need to talk to me, and i can still look up driving directions and what movie this week's er guest star was in, oh yeah, and update my blog on how a month without aol is going...
so, i mean, it's not all that bad, but at the same time, this computer pretty much isn't good for anything but aol
