Gibson Jury Reacts to Mel's 'Passion' March 1, 2005 Jury selection continued in the Mel Gibson trial Tuesday, as the superstar prepared to face his alleged stalker, Zack Sinclair. And although Sinclair's mother told "CJ" that her son is in no position to be fighting the justice system, the judge already decided that Sinclair is mentally capable.
Sinclair represented himself Tuesday, questioning potential jurors. He did so meekly and without much legal insight, something he told the judge back in January he was concerned about. "On the jury selection, I'm somewhat unfamiliar with that process," he said in court at the time.
But Judge John Fisher knows the jury selection process, and Tuesday he had an interesting question for the jury pool. It's not often that perspective jurors in a major stalking case are asked their feelings about a blockbuster film -- but then again, this is Hollywood. And in this case, the prosecution's key witness may be its lethal weapon.
It seems Mel Gibson's hugely successful, and equally controversial, film "The Passion of the Christ" is on the minds of some potential jurors. One candidate told the judge she was offended by the film. "I'm Jewish," she said. "And there's no way I can separate my views about Mel Gibson and 'The Passion' from this trial."
Another juror, a screenwriter, said he thought the film was irresponsible, saying it's not right to depict the death of Christ without depicting the life of Christ. Another potential juror didn't seem to like celebrities in general, telling the judge "I feel sorry for Zack, having to go up against that 'movie star'". She was immediately excused.
Gibson is expected to be on the witness stand to face the accused stalker on Thursday.
I don't have anything to say about this one, just found it interesting.

Richards and Sheen to Divorce Mar 2, 10:46 PM EST
The Associated Press
LOS ANGELES -- Actress Denise Richards has filed for divorce from her actor-husband Charlie Sheen, citing irreconcilable differences, according to court papers filed Wednesday.
Richards, 34, is six months pregnant with the couple's second child. They also have a daughter, Sam, who will be a year old next week.
The couple married in June 2002 and co-starred in "Scary Movie 3." Richards and Sheen, 39, met while shooting the independent film "Good Advice" in 2000.
They began dating after Richards guest-starred on Sheen's former series "Spin City." The marriage was Sheen's second and Richards' first.
Sheen, who now stars in the CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men," is best known for his work in the movies "Platoon," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Hot Shots."
Richards, a former Bond girl, has appeared in a host of movies, including "Wild Things" and "Starship Troopers."
I say it's a publicity stunt. They'll magically reunite while she's giving birth and go on the talk show circuit.
